What's new

Every update, newest first. You're on v2.33.3.

Version 2 · Novice, JV and Varsity

  1. v2.33.3Nov 2, 2026

    NATO cards are up

    • The November topic is live: over 1,000 NATO cards from Blue Key and the first November rounds are in Search.
    • The Field shows the NATO contentions and blocks teams are running.
  2. v2.33.2Oct 29, 2026

    Sign-up asks two more things

    • New accounts pick their school or team and how they heard about Flowstate.
    • Handles that look official, like @nsda or @tabroom, are reserved.
  3. v2.33.1Oct 28, 2026

    The November brief is $4

    • The NATO and nuclear ban treaty brief (171 pages, 147 cards) is $4, down from $6. Included with JV.
  4. v2.33.0Oct 26, 2026

A shorter sidebar, if you want it

    • Settings > Appearance > Sidebar: pick Simple to see just Flow, Case builder, Search, Card cutter, Assistant and Messages. Everything else is one click away under More.
  5. v2.32.0Oct 26, 2026

Search forgives typos, and a quick survey

    • Search fixes misspellings: "repubicans" finds Republicans, and it says what it searched for instead.
    • A four-question survey a day after you join. On Novice? Answer it and get JV free for 3 days.
  6. v2.31.3Oct 26, 2026

    Flowing together, fixed

    • Two people typing in the same speech at once no longer get doubled or half-typed lines.
    • Deleting a line your partner wrote now sticks.
    • If your internet drops mid-round, you catch up on everything your partner wrote when it's back.
    • Joining a round after its owner left gets you the round as it is now, not the last save.
  7. v2.31.2Oct 23, 2026

    Flowing says the argument

    • When Flow turns a speech into lines, each line now says what the argument is ("data centers spike power costs, mills shut down") instead of the card's author and year.
    • Rounds you already split into 2 sheets now open with the paper layout too.
  8. v2.31.1Oct 23, 2026

    2 sheets, like paper

    • On 2 sheets, each case's sheet now matches a paper flow: the first rebuttal only goes on the sheet of the case it attacks, and the second rebuttal is on both.
  9. v2.31.0Oct 23, 2026

    A simpler Flow

    • Flow's top bar is down to what you use mid-round: round and opponent, the timer, Partner, your flows and New.
    • Everything you set once a round (who speaks first, your side, lay or tech, sheets, grid or text, text size) is in one button that shows how the round is set up.
  10. v2.30.1Oct 21, 2026

    Flowing with a partner, fixed

    • Reloading the page during a partner round puts you straight back in it. Before, a reload left you flowing your own copy, so nothing your partner typed showed up.
    • Typing fast in a partner round no longer drops letters from what you just wrote.
  11. v2.30.0Oct 21, 2026

    Clearer Settings, and accessibility

    • Settings is split into sections (Account, Appearance, Accessibility, Cards, Search, Speaking) with a list down the side to jump between them.
    • New accessibility settings: bigger text across the whole site, higher contrast in every design, reduce motion, and underlined links.
  12. v2.29.1Oct 20, 2026

    When your free time ends

    • When a free week or free trial runs out, you'll get a quick choice: keep JV or Varsity, or go back to Novice. Sometimes there's a discount waiting, already on at checkout.
  13. v2.29.0Oct 20, 2026

    Speed drills and paper flows

    • Speed drills in Rhetorica: your read-aloud words light up at a target speed while you read along. Say how it went and the next one speeds up or slows down.
    • Varsity: snap a photo of a paper flow in Flow and it becomes a grid flow, ready for the recap and the practice judge.
  14. v2.28.0Oct 20, 2026

    A new home page

    • When you're signed in, home has a search box, a Continue button for your last round, and your other recent work.
    • Type the school you're hitting right on home to open its Scouting report.
    • See how many cards, rounds and questions you have left.
  15. v2.27.0Oct 19, 2026

    Scouting

    • New on Varsity: Scouting. Type the school you're hitting and see what they've run in their caselist round files, which side they ran each on, the cards they read most under each contention, and your answers to each one.
  16. v2.26.6Oct 19, 2026

Imported cards show up in Search

    • Import now files your cards under the current topic, so they show up in Search right away. Before, they went in with no topic and Search hid them.
    • Security fixes for shared card docs, link fetching in the card cutter and payments.
  17. v2.26.5Oct 19, 2026

    Messages, live

    • The Messages page looks like a chat now, and new messages show up without refreshing.
  18. v2.26.4Oct 19, 2026

    Teams on the plans

    • The front page and the Plans page mention Teams, which works on every plan.
    • Card docs you share have a link to Flowstate at the bottom.
  19. v2.26.3Oct 18, 2026

    Cmd+K fix

    • Cmd+K in Flow was opening Find cards and the jump-to box at the same time. Now it just opens Find cards.
  20. v2.26.2Oct 18, 2026

    Confetti

    • Buy JV or Varsity and you'll get a big "You're all set!" with confetti when you land back on the site.
  21. v2.26.1Oct 17, 2026

    New Flow tour

    • Remade the Flow tour video with a new voice. It covers the grid, two sheets, undo, prep clocks, focus mode, shortcuts and Undo. Find it under More, then Watch the tour.
  22. v2.26.0Oct 16, 2026

    Prep clocks, focus mode, Cmd+K

    • Each team gets its own prep clock next to the timer. Click to start or pause it, double-click to reset it to 3:00.
    • The speech timer stays accurate even if you switch tabs, and it beeps (quietly) at 0:00.
    • Your screen won't go to sleep while a timer is running or Flow is listening.
    • A− and A+ change the text size in Flow. Focus (or the \ key) hides everything except the flow.
    • Press ? in Flow to see every shortcut.
    • Deleted a flow, case, cut card or block by accident? You get 8 seconds to hit Undo.
    • Delete buttons show up on phones and tablets now.
    • Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows) lets you jump to any page or anything you've saved by typing its name.
    • Teams: owners can rename a team, My work marks what's in a team, and you can see which speech your partner or teammate is typing in.
  23. v2.25.0Oct 16, 2026

    Live teams

    • If you and a teammate have the same flow, case, cut card, block or note open, you'll see each other's changes as you type. Two people typing in the same speech in Flow both keep their lines.
    • Add to team works from Flow, the Case builder, the card cutter and Frontlines.
    • Team invites show up as a number next to Teams in the sidebar.
    • Notes save as you type, and a team folder updates when you come back to the tab.
    • Live flowing with a partner keeps up with fast typing now.
  24. v2.24.2Oct 16, 2026

    Icon tweaks

    • Redid some sidebar icon animations: Flow's bolt flashes, notes float out of Rhetorica's mic, a card pops out of The Field, the Assistant types, the scissors snip and the gavel slams all the way down.
  25. v2.24.1Oct 16, 2026

    Moving icons

    • Sidebar icons do a small animation when you point at them. The scissors snip, the gavel comes down, the arrow hits the target, the paper airplane flies off and the star turns yellow.
  26. v2.24.0Oct 16, 2026

    Teams

    • Make a team on any plan and invite people by @handle.
    • Every team has a shared folder for cases, flows, blocks, cut cards, cards and notes. Everyone edits the same copy in the normal tools.
    • If you leave a team, whatever you added goes back to just being yours.
  27. v2.23.4Oct 16, 2026

    Two sheet fixes

    • On two sheets, Flow's answers, your next speech and your card doc read the whole round instead of just the sheet you're on.
    • Enter adds a line to the speech you're in and the speeches after it. Earlier speeches don't move.
    • Switching from two sheets to one and back puts every line back on the sheet it came from.
    • Prep as I flow starts off. Once you turn it on, it stays on.
  28. v2.23.3Oct 16, 2026

    Softer highlights

    • The yellow highlight on headings is softer and fits each design's colors better. Card highlighting is still regular yellow.
  29. v2.23.2Oct 16, 2026

    Smoother sidebar

    • The sidebar opens and closes smoothly now, without the labels jumping around.
    • When it opens, the f turns into the full flowstate logo. When it closes, it goes back.
  30. v2.23.1Oct 16, 2026

    Logo fix

    • The f in the logo uses the same font as the flowstate name now.
    • Fixed the example cards at the top of the front page looking faded or cut off.
  31. v2.23.0Oct 15, 2026

    Two sheets, undo, extend

    • You can flow on two sheets like on paper: the Pro case and everything after it on one, the Con case and everything after it on the other. Switch with 1 sheet | 2 sheets.
    • Cmd+Z undoes and Cmd+Shift+Z redoes in the grid, including deleted lines.
    • Cmd+E extends a line into your side's next speech. Cmd+Backspace clears a line.
    • Dropped arguments are counted by row: a line counts as answered if they wrote something on that row, and rows they haven't gotten to yet don't count.
    • Got rid of the full-screen Varsity popup in Flow. The Varsity note is one small line now, and you can hide it.
  32. v2.22.1Oct 15, 2026

    Privacy and Terms update

    • The Privacy page now covers messages from Flowstate, brief purchases, backups and how long they're kept, what's stored in your browser, and the email service we use for support.
    • The Terms mention Attack a card and say who owns caselist cards.
    • Flow's grid columns are narrower so a whole round fits on one screen.
  33. v2.22.0Oct 15, 2026

    Flow grid

    • Flow is a grid now. Every line is a cell, and answers sit on the same row as the argument they answer.
    • Click a cell and its whole row lights up, so you can follow one argument from case to final focus.
    • Enter goes to the next cell, Tab and Shift+Tab move between speeches on the same row, and Up and Down move one cell.
    • Old flows open in the grid, and / blocks, cards and the other Flow tools work like before. You can switch back to Text next to Lay and Tech.
  34. v2.21.4Oct 15, 2026

    Number highlights

    • The big numbers on the front page get highlighted when you point at them.
  35. v2.21.3Oct 15, 2026

    Tab to answer

    • Tab in Flow jumps to the same line in the next speech, so your answer lines up with their argument. Shift+Tab goes back.
    • The JV Monthly/Yearly switch on the front page slides now.
    • New background glow on the sign-in section at the bottom of the front page.
  36. v2.21.2Oct 15, 2026

    Front page update

    • New example cards at the top that tilt when you move your mouse.
    • A timeline of a full round, from prep to final focus, showing which tools help where.
    • Moved the plans higher up the page.
  37. v2.21.1Oct 15, 2026

    New front page

    • An example card with every part labeled. Point at a label to see that part on the card.
    • Each tool has its own tile with a small animation of it.
    • New sign-in section at the bottom.
  38. v2.21.0Oct 15, 2026

    Plans on the front page

    • The plans are on the front page now, one click from checkout.
    • Varsity gets 4 practice judgings every two weeks instead of 2.
    • Flow's speeches won't use a number the card doesn't have, even spelled out ("five percent"), and won't turn a card's "catastrophic" into "extinction".
    • The Assistant only puts a card's exact words in quotes.
    • Saving in the card cutter is simpler: your cut is saved as a draft in My work, and Add to Search puts it in Search.
    • The demo round fills in the first case right away.
  39. v2.20.2Oct 15, 2026

    Small fixes

    • The logo in the sidebar matches your design's background.
    • Fixed the Listen option and the uses-left lines in Flow's More menu.
  40. v2.20.1Oct 15, 2026

    Flow fixes

    • Summary and final focus only name cards that were already read in the round.
    • If you turn off Prep as I flow, it stays off now.
    • Opening a saved round shows a loading message instead of an empty sheet.
    • Dropped badges only show on case and rebuttal, and notes under an answer don't count as arguments.
    • Fixed about 160 more caselist cards that had other cards stuck to them.
    • The card cutter won't list a hidden page account as the author.
    • The sidebar starts with Flow, and your most-used tools are at the top.
  41. v2.20.0Oct 14, 2026

    Search and card fixes

    • Search ranks results by the important words you typed, puts cards with all of them first, and sorts folders by their best card.
    • Fixed about 230 caselist cards that were really several cards or a whole article. Each one is a single card now.
    • Flow's speeches only point to evidence that's on the flow. Summary and final focus name cards instead of reading them again.
    • Flow counts their "A2 ..." and "Frontline ..." lines as answers when checking what they dropped.
    • The card cutter only names someone as the author if the page says they wrote it, not a press contact.
    • The Assistant searches the words in your question together, and shows italics and headings properly.
  42. v2.19.5Oct 14, 2026

    More fixes

    • Flow's speeches only name an author if that author's card is under the line or was read in the round.
    • Flow waits for the other team's rebuttal before saying you dropped something.
    • Split up about 140 caselist cards that ran into the next block. 69 cards that were hidden inside them are in Search now.
    • Search opens the top result for each new search and scrolls back to the top.
    • The card cutter uses your computer's date for "accessed", and won't name a press contact as the author.
    • The Assistant shows headings and lists instead of # and --- marks.
    • Typing "- " in Flow makes a sub-point, and Flow says frontlines when that's what you used.
  43. v2.19.4Oct 14, 2026

    Fixes

    • Flow only marks something as dropped after the other team had a chance to answer it, and never on final focus.
    • Prep as I flow shows what it's doing next to its switch.
    • If your browser won't autoplay the Flow tour, you get a Play button instead of a frozen video.
    • Search puts cards whose tags match what you typed near the top.
    • The Field: Gridlock is its own argument now (it was mixed in with Electric Grid), and "Case Overview" is gone since it wasn't an argument.
    • The Assistant's card buttons match the numbers in the answer, and Plans shows the right number of designs.
  44. v2.19.3Oct 14, 2026

    Card cutter fixes

    • The card cutter reads the whole article when it's split into sections, like IEA reports. It used to read just one section sometimes.
    • If your claim has two parts and the article only backs one, it cuts a card for that part.
    • Long articles don't stop with "The AI's answer was cut off" anymore.
    • If no person wrote it, the organization goes in the cite (IEA 25).
  45. v2.19.2Oct 14, 2026

    Flow sticks to your cards

    • When Flow writes a speech or answers, every line has to come from your cards or the flow. Lines that quote a study you don't have a card for, or use a number nobody said, get cut.
    • Flow only says "their own evidence" about cards the other team actually read.
  46. v2.19.1Oct 13, 2026

    Messages in the sidebar

    • Messages has its own spot in the sidebar with a count for new ones, so you can find them after closing the popup.
  47. v2.19.0Oct 13, 2026

    Messages

    • Flowstate can send you messages now. They pop up the next time you open the site (never mid-round), and you can reply.
    • Some come with a button, like one that makes you a referral code.
    • You can find them again in Settings under Messages.
  48. v2.18.0Oct 13, 2026

    Design picker

    • Next time you sign in you'll get a window to try all 13 designs and pick one. New accounts see it after the first questions. You can change it anytime in Settings.
  49. v2.17.2Oct 13, 2026

    Brief contents links

    • Everything in the NATO brief's contents is clickable now, and it lists every Pro and Con argument, answer, sample speech and country.
    • The PDF has bookmarks too, so your PDF viewer's sidebar works as a menu. Download it again to get this version.
  50. v2.17.1Oct 12, 2026

    Chalkboard tweak

    • The yellow behind headings in Chalkboard is softer, and the text on it is dark so it's easier to read.
  51. v2.17.0Oct 12, 2026

    Three new designs

    • New designs in Settings: Highlighter (paper and highlighter yellow), Verbatim (looks like a Word blockfile) and Chalkboard (chalk on a dark board).
    • Search opens the top result on the right automatically.
    • Arrow keys work in Search's folders.
    • Flow's sheet fills the screen, and the right edge fades when there are more speeches off to the side.
  52. v2.16.1Oct 12, 2026

    Faster first search

    • Keyword results show up sooner when the database is slow to wake up, instead of waiting on the meaning search.
  53. v2.16.0Oct 12, 2026

    Bigger NATO brief

    • The NATO and nuclear ban treaty brief went from 68 pages to 170, with 147 cards (61 new).
    • Added a page on each of the 30 European NATO members, frontlines for every contention, sample rebuttals, summaries and final focuses for both sides, 60 crossfire questions, a glossary, a timeline, the full treaty text and a card index.
    • New layout with a contents page, section dividers and page numbers. If you already bought it, download it again.
    • The 61 new cards are in Search under the November/December topic.
  54. v2.15.1Oct 12, 2026

    Ready for the new topic

    • Examples in Search, the card cutter and Frontlines follow the current topic, so they'll switch to NATO on November 1.
    • Prog has NATO-topic versions of the Security, Capitalism, Settler colonialism, Feminist IR and Environmental justice Ks, and shows the right one for the current topic.
    • The sample card in Settings is highlighted like a real card.
  55. v2.15.0Oct 12, 2026

    Flow tour

    • The first time you open Flow, a one-minute video shows you how it works: naming the round, sides and judge, typing, timers, flowing with a partner and seeing what they dropped.
    • It has a voiceover and captions. Watch it again from More, then Watch the tour.
  56. v2.14.1Oct 12, 2026

    Better highlighting

    • The card cutter highlights like debaters do, in lots of short pieces that skip filler words, instead of long highlighted sentences. Cards keep more of the article around the highlighting too.
    • Organizations get their initials in short cites, like PSR 26 or CRS 25.
    • Search is fast again after the caselist doubled.
  57. v2.14.0Oct 10, 2026

    Round recap

    • Round recap is under More in Flow. It reads your flow from your side and tells you what they ran, what slipped, what worked, and three things to practice.
    • Every point quotes a line from your flow, and the recap is saved with the round. It counts as part of the round's Flow use on Varsity.
  58. v2.13.0Oct 9, 2026

    Topic briefs

    • New Topic briefs page. The first one is for the November/December NATO and nuclear ban treaty topic: 68 pages and 86 cards, with arguments on both sides, answers, sample cases and a country-by-country table.
    • Open it as a PDF or download it as a Word file. It's included with JV and Varsity, or $4 by itself.
  59. v2.12.1Oct 9, 2026

    Better cites

    • The card cutter reads the byline and author box, so cites name the actual writer instead of the site. If there's no named writer, it cites the organization.
    • It finds the date on more sites too.
  60. v2.12.0Oct 9, 2026

    Full caselist

    • Search covers every school that posted on this topic's caselist: 12,179 cards from 4,734 round files and 221 schools. That's about twice as many as before.
    • Every round file opens in Caselist files, and the Prog filter finds more Ks, theory and frameworks.
  61. v2.11.0Oct 8, 2026

    Practice judge

    • After a practice round, go to More and pick Judge this round. Choose a lay, flay or tech judge.
    • You get who wins and why, what fell off the flow, and what would've helped each side. It reads the round twice with the teams swapped so the order doesn't matter.
    • Varsity gets two judged rounds every two weeks.
  62. v2.10.3Oct 6, 2026

    Server fixes

    • Shared card docs check for new cards every 15 seconds instead of every 5.
    • Friend requests are checked less often when the tab is in the background.
  63. v2.10.2Oct 4, 2026

    Referral fixes

    • Small fixes to referral codes.
  64. v2.10.1Oct 4, 2026

    Referral fix

    • The free trial bar shows up as soon as the page opens.
  65. v2.10.0Oct 4, 2026

    Referral codes

    • Sign up with a referral code and you get a free week of JV. No card needed, and it ends by itself.
    • Get six people to use your code and you get three months of Varsity.
    • A bar at the top shows how much free time you have left. If you buy during it, you don't pay until the free time ends.
  66. v2.9.1Oct 4, 2026

    Sidebar fix

    • Fixed the next page showing on top of the open sidebar for a second.
    • Clicking the logo, your name or the plans link closes the sidebar, same as the page links.
  67. v2.9.0Oct 4, 2026

    What's new

    • Added this page. It lists every update with its version number and is linked at the bottom of every page and in Settings.
  68. v2.8.0Oct 4, 2026

    Sidebar that tucks away

    • On a computer, the sidebar is a strip of icons that opens when you point at it and closes when you move away or pick a page.
    • There's a switch in Settings to keep it open.
  69. v2.7.0Oct 3, 2026

    Flow without internet

    • If the wifi dies mid-round, Flow keeps saving on your device and uploads once you're back online.
    • Flow opens with no internet if you've opened it on that device before.
    • Signing out clears everything the browser saved, so nothing of yours stays on a shared computer.
  70. v2.6.0Oct 3, 2026

    Faster search

    • Searches that mix keywords and meaning don't time out anymore, in Search, Flow's card finder or the Assistant.
    • Searching while signed in is about four times faster.
    • Searching an author or a rare word puts their cards first.
    • Search shows when it's loading.
  71. v2.5.0Oct 3, 2026

    Prog filter

    • Search has a Prog filter for Ks, theory, frameworks and answers to prog, based on how teams filed their cards.
  72. v2.4.2Oct 3, 2026

    Accessibility fixes

    • Every design passes contrast checks in light and dark mode.
    • Added a skip link, and popups close with Esc.
    • The Plans page explains refunds, and sign-in says you need to be 13 or older.
  73. v2.4.1Oct 3, 2026

    Small fixes

    • Fixed search counts, case length at lay speed, the phone layout, and slow fades on the front page.
  74. v2.4.0Oct 2, 2026

    Search by meaning

    • Search finds cards that say the same thing in different words. Every card was covered by October 3.
  75. v2.3.0Oct 2, 2026

    AI quotes and account deletion

    • Anything the AI says a card says has to quote the card.
    • The card cutter asks before looking for another source, since that uses another cut.
    • Search doesn't make up initials anymore and searches phrases by their words.
    • You can delete your account in Settings.
    • Longer privacy page, and the terms mention following your tournament's rules.
  76. v2.2.0Oct 2, 2026

    The Field

    • The Blockfile is now The Field, since it has contentions and blocks.
    • AI tools have their own section in the sidebar.
    • Rewrote the site's text to be plainer.
  77. v2.1.2Oct 2, 2026

    Small fixes

    • Google shows the site as Flowstate now.
    • Name this round closes with the X, Esc or a click outside.
  78. v2.1.1Oct 1, 2026

    New logo

    • New logo: an f on a highlighter swipe.
    • Flow's rebuttals read cards again, and the toolbar uses two lines so the boxes have more room.
