Privacy Policy

This page explains what Flowstate (flowstateprep.com) stores about you, why, and who else handles it. Questions or requests: support@flowstateprep.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
- What you tell us when you join: your first name and last initial, your @handle, whether you're a debater, coach or parent, and, if you choose to share them, your grade, school or team, experience level and how you heard about Flowstate.
- How you use the site: which pages you open, how long each one is on your screen, how far you scroll, which buttons and links you click, what you search for, and errors that happen in your browser. Also your device type, browser, screen size, language, time zone and the website that sent you here. Apart from your searches, we never record what you type into a box.
- What you make: files you upload, cards you cut or star, flows, cases, blocks and assistant chats. These are private to your account unless you choose to share a card with everyone or send something to a friend.
- Friends: who you've added, requests you've sent, anyone you've blocked or reported, and what you send to friends. Someone who searches for your @handle sees your first name, last initial and picture, never your email or school. Something you send is copied to your friend, so they keep it even if you later change or delete yours.
- Referral codes and invites: whose code or invite link you signed up with, and when. The person whose code it is sees how many people have used it, not who.
- Messages from Flowstate: messages we send you on the site, and anything you write back. Only Flowstate's team reads your replies.
- Card docs and shared rounds: when you share a card doc, anyone with its link can read the cards on it, without an account, until you stop sharing. When you flow a round with a friend, they can see and edit that round.
- Payments: if you buy JV or Varsity, your plan, whether it's monthly or yearly, and when it renews. If you buy a topic brief, which one and when. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- How you use the AI: which AI features you used and when, so we can apply plan limits and see what the service costs to run.
- Sign-ins: when you signed in, and a scrambled tag made from your network address (not the address itself), used to spot abuse such as one person making many accounts.
How it's used
- To run your account and the features you use, and to keep the service safe.
- To understand how Flowstate gets used, so we can fix what's confusing and build what people need. This is kept on our own systems: we don't use outside analytics or advertising companies.
- We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
- Cookies keep you signed in. A random id stored in your browser tells us when the same browser comes back; it isn't linked to you unless you're signed in. Your browser also keeps a few things on your device only, such as your design, how Flow is laid out, and work that hasn't reached our servers yet because you were offline. There are no ads and no ad tracking.
Services that handle your data
- Supabase: the database and sign-in.
- Vercel: hosting the website and storing files, such as the files you upload.
- Google: sign-in, if you choose it.
- Stripe: payments for JV and Varsity.
- Anthropic (Claude): the AI features. The text you send to a feature, such as an article to cut or a line from your flow, is sent to it to produce the answer. Anthropic doesn't train its models on it, and keeps it under its own privacy policy.
- Voyage AI: meaning-based search. Card text and search words are sent to it to find similar cards, under its own privacy policy.
- ImprovMX: if you email support@flowstateprep.com, it forwards your email to our inbox.
- Your browser's speech service: when you use Listen, your browser turns what it hears into text. Chrome sends the audio to Google to do that, and Edge sends it to Microsoft. Flowstate only gets the text, never the audio.
Keeping and deleting it
- We keep your account and work until you delete it.
- Every two days we make a full backup of the database and files, so nothing is lost if something breaks. Backups are kept on a computer and drive controlled by Flowstate's owner, not shared with anyone, and older ones are deleted as new ones are made.
- Delete your account any time in Settings, under Account. It's gone right away: your profile, uploads, private cards, flows, cases, chats and the records of how you used the site. Cards you shared with everyone stay, with no name on them. A paid plan is canceled. Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires. Copies in our backups are gone within about ten days, as older backups are deleted.
- To get a copy of your data, or if you can't sign in to delete your account, email support@flowstateprep.com from your account's address.
Students
Flowstate is made for high school debaters. You must be at least 13 to use it. If you're a parent and think your child under 13 made an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and say so on the site.
